Baltix offers the widest palette of green material options currently available in the marketplace.  Materials have been screened for our green table collection based on the following criteria:

  • Durability (physical properties)
  • Aesthetic appeal

  • Raw material availability via distribution channels
  • Green attributes including potential LEED point contribution
    • pre/post consumer recycled content
    • biocomposite agrifiber (sunflower wheat)
    • Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification
    • no added formaldehyde (NAF) and non VOC

Forbo Marmoleum (linoleum surface laminate)

Forbo Marmoleum has been designed for use as a surface finishing material for office furniture and tables and offers a design alternative for high pressure laminates. Baltix applies Marmoleum over an FSC non-VOC green core material.  Marmoleum is made from natural materials consisting of linseed oil, wood flour, rosin binders, limestone, dry pigments and jute backing.  The material offers a smooth, warm writing surface that is highly durable and easy to maintain. 

Marmoleum material is biodegradable, anti-static, repairable, has a bactericidal effect, is hygienic, is lightfast, resistant to chemical and meets or exceeds Class 1 fire rating.

Sierra Pine – ARREIS (green MDF)

ARREIS is made from 100% recycled wood fiber with no added formaldehyde.  At the standard 1 1/8” thickness, ARREIS provides a durable, FSC certified material option that is offered with a non-VOC clearcoat finish or with a Forbo Marmoleum surface laminate.

Shetkastone (post-consumer recycled paper)

Shetkastone is a surface material used for tables and counter tops that is made from waste paper.  Baltix offers this unique and beautiful material that incorporates post-consumer recycled paper that is removed from the solid waste stream including cardboard, newsprint and recycled U.S. currency.  The material is finished with a durable non-VOC high gloss process.

Biocomposite (ecowheat & ecosunflower)

Baltix offers tables made from agrifiber wheat straw and sunflower hulls.  The materials are renewable and contain no synthetics or environmentally damaging substances.  A satin non-VOC UV cured finish is applied to the final product ensuring moisture and scratch resistance.

Bamboo

Baltix uses Plyboo® bamboo made from rapidly renewable material.  Plyboo recently announced that they have met the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) enabling the company to produce the world’s first range of FSC-certified bamboo.  Baltix offers four bamboo styles in our table product line that are finished with a non-VOC UV cured process.

Maple & Cherry Veneers on FSC non-VOC Green Cores

Baltix offers highly refined veneers over FSC Certified green core material.  The core material is made from 100% recycled wood fiber with no added formaldehyde.  The table surface includes a non-VOC clearcoat finish.

Powder Coating

Baltix offers an eco-friendly powder coat finish over FSC Certified green core material.  Powder coating is an environmentally preferred method of applying a finish that avoids traditional solvent-based paints.  This process eliminates off-gassing and overspray waste as the unused powder can be collected and reused.  Powder coating offers a smooth writing surface that is highly durable.

BioEdge

Baltix offers an eco-friendly edgeband option with our table program that replaces the need for PVC/ABS edgebanding.  BioEdge is made from a natural biobased corn polymer material that does not off-gas harmful VOCs.
